Annecy A City Called Venice Of The Alps

I would love to say Bonjour from Annecy, a city called “Venice of The Alps” and there’s a reason for that. With this post i’m sharing my day trip story to Annecy France as my 4th stop of my solo traveling around Europe and Annecy should be on your next bucket list.

I’ve been dreaming to visit Annecy from months before and find way to put it in my itinerary of my Europe trip.  Annecy can be reach from Paris with TGV and you will be arrive at Gare de Annecy, yes Annecy is part of France. But i find out that it’s too far and also didn’t match with my schedule. So i decide to stay at Geneva and doing a daytrip to Annecy. You can use bus and it’s only 1-1,5 hours with the ticket cost you 22 Euro one way.

I arrive at outside Gare du Annecy and a bit confuse how to get to the old town. Not everywhere in Annecy looks like in that postcard. You will have to walk about 15 minutes just ask direction to people. You know you arrive when you see old buildings and big canal that looks like in Venice. See those cafe lining up with chairs outside, so pretty right ?

I was lucky to find the street market and overwhelmed with everything i see. From food like olive, chocolate, dry meat, flowers and beautiful veggie. They will finish selling around 12-1 pm.

I continue walking around. It does look like in venice but smaller. The best thing is the water at the canal is very clean and it’s a bit quiet than venice. The building just nice and colourful, many alley are pretty. And if you follow the end of the canal, you will see the lake. Cross the street and you see park beside the lake. It’s so beautiful with turquoise water and mountain. So you know why it called Venice of the alps, becuse it’s close to Alp Mountain. They say you have to find Ponts Des Amours here.

Spot Ile palace here that was prison and now become Annecy History Museum and the canal name is Thiou canal.

For foodie experience i only buy gelato at agave cafe and it’s the best gelato i find during my europe trip. Choose cherry flavour. So many outdoor cafe around and it’s full with visitor. And i sit to drink coffee but unfortunately i pick the wrong cafe coz it tase awfull. Many shop sell meringue and sweet delicacies that look so delicious.

I just wander around, take pictures and just enjoy every corner and then go back to Geneva with bus. It’s been amazing to see Annecy and i wish i could stay there longer but my schedule was very packed. So i give you postcards from Annecy where every corner feel so magical.
