Nishiki Market Foodie Walk

If you don`t have enough time to explore food in Kyoto, just go to Nishiki market.  Like i did it, i only have less than 3 hours with no guide and you can see what i got.  Though it`s not enough time to explore every single thing.   Visiting a market and do foodie walk is my fave activities whenever i travel, getting to know the culture through the market and find the real taste of a city. Don`t worry too much about the language, many people speak english there. Just enter it and enjoy the food.

The market is like an  alley with roof, it`s clean and not wet.  I was visiting on sunday so it`s very crowded, hard to stop and taking picture, and even harder to choose which food to buy first.  Food stalls lining up along, mix from fruit, mochi, cookies, veggie, raw fish, cooked fish, colourfull pickles, even flower and cutlery.  I`m just amazed with the variety and overwhelmed with everything.  When you visit a market, you buy and eat it while walking and you can keep it to eat later.  If you want to sit, there are many restaurant serve lunch.  I just don`t have to time to sit just walk deeper find food and more shops.

My best find is deep fried fish and unagi in skewer, 1500 y and you get 3 skewer and the taste is omg so gooood.  They will serve it hot and we can eat at their stall, standing.  They gave us hot tea and it`s so fragrant not sure what kind of tea.  Bought famous japanese strawberry 1000 y get 7,  it`s big, sweet and so fresh with burst flavour.  Many shops give samples, and you can buy food in a few number.

Taste some veggie pickles, they have it everywhere, colourful like candy.  Some we like, and some is too strange for my palate.  Don`t miss japanese omelette or tamago, here you can see how they cook it, so it`s absolutely fresh and warm.   Strawberry mochi is also cute and yummy. When i snap sushi restaurant, i can`t miss it, well i`m in kyoto and i have to try kyoto style sushi, once i read that typical sushi in kyoto is different with other place. Hakosuzhi or box sushi,  it`s sushi with fish and rice made in box shape, you can see it at my pic.  And also they put a sweet cake inside my sushi roll mix with veggie and fish. Impresive and affordable for 1000y.

What i miss is, the ice cream stall, they look so yummy, with so many kind of parfait and green tea dessert.  And those cutlery,  little japanese bowl, deep fried everything and try some restaurants.   Somebody please take me back, please.  My advise is, don`t skip this place, make enough time and empty stomach :).
