Explore Milan In 6 Hours

Buongiorno my friends, it’s been too long from updating my solo traveling story around Europe. And now my journey had reached the 6th destination and it’s Milan. So excited to share my Italian escape since i did visit 5 cities of Italy. Unfortunately i stay in Milan in a very short time. So read along how i explore Milan in 6 hours.

I leave Geneva with Oui Bus in the morning. The trip is very nice with the view of Alp mountain, and we arrive in Italy after passing by Mont Blanc tunnel. It was 2 hours late from schedule due to a long inspection at italian border. The bus stop at Lampugnano.

I meet a lady from Philliphines and she was really nice, giving me guide on how to get to my hostel. We took metro and saying goodbye. My hostel is very near from the metro station turino. I just walk about 5 min. Check in and arrive at my room, i got super excited to find this view from my window. I’ve been obsessed about italian window where we can do people watching, so lucky to get this room.

Since i will leave Milan in the morning, i only have this evening to explore Milan. So i rush and go to the front office and ask the girl whatever i need to know. She help me a lot and give map of Milan.

So this is my version of how to explore milan in 6 hours

PLACES

Duomo

First stop i go to Duomo with metro and once we get out you can see stright in front of you the magnificent Duomo. It’s huge and there are many pigeons around. It’s raining a little bit so that evening feel so gloomy. Not too many people around. I didn’t go up and choose to go to La Rinascente in front of Duomo.

La Rinascente

This shopping mall is absolutely beautiful. Admire the iconic facade and so is the inside. I can’t stop staring up and down as the floor is also very beautiful. I go explore this place and find the food hall. Didn’t buy anything because i’m afraid of dragging heavy luggage. There is a coffee shop where you can have italian coffee at the right spot with the view of duomo. It’s a standing coffee shop. Yes no chair, because in Italy sitting has a price. I check out the book store also and those italian cookbook look so great.

Tram

When in Milan, i promise myself to take a tram ride. And yes i found the tram station behind La Rinascente. So i jump and explore Milan. Get off on the bridge and take a walk. See many cafe and restaurant while i get back to Duomo. I need to taste some Milan delicacy.

EAT

Pizzeria Del Ticinase

Corso di porta ticinese 65 Milan

I’m a bit confuse to choose place to eat. I keep walking and spot this lovely place. I wanted to taste local restaurant and i think i go to the right place. This pizzeria established long time ago sorry i forgot to write down the year. Loving the interior here, i know what i want to order even before i arrive in Italy. Seafood salad and Eggplant Lasagna. Both are delicious and have big portion. Seafood salad have big chunk of octopus, fish, shrimp and crab cake. They also put red onion picle, lemon and olive oil with rocket on top. Rocket suprisingly taste sweet and soft. I usually hate rocket but this is good. I love this salad, it’s a new foodie experience for me. The Eggplant lasagna with cheese taste so fresh and so delicious. They made it right on the spot. The lady is very nice and speak english fluently. My dinner cost 18 Euro. A lovely dinner. I feel sorry not to taste any pizza in Milan.

STAY

Urban Brera Hostel

And that’s it, i go back to my hostel. I sleep in female dorm for 6 people. There are only 3 people that night and we are all solo traveler. I meet so many female solo traveler from around the world during my trip and they are taking almost the same route as mine. I love this hostel because the location is near metro station. Bathroom and locker plus a fridge inside the room, they also has elevator. Everything is clean though the design is a bit dated but i think that’s not a problem. Most important that the price is very cheap, compare to what i got.

I think 6 hours is too short to explore Milan. I didn’t get the chance to visit 10 corso como cafe where the celebrities hang out. Well i slept for 8 hours which is longer than my explore time but hey i need to have enough sleep to provide energy for my next trip.

Some tips on how to explore milan in 6 hours :

  • Ask information to your hotel/hostel how to get to the destination, transportation, cost, what they suggest to visit
  • Choose what matter to you and find the best route
  • Understanding metro station is a bit confusing compare to Paris
  • Not every station has a person to help you buy metro ticket, you will buy it from the machine or at newspaper/tobacco stall
  • Always beware of pick pocket
  • To catch train to Venice, just follow the sign at Milano Centrale station and see on the board to find your train track
  • Take some time to explore Milano Centrale station because it’s so pretty
