Florence might be a dream destination for some people and that’s how i thought before i had some troubles there. So I must share my florence guide according to what i experience a year ago. Florence is part of my europe solo trip and it’s my 9th destination. Hopefully you can plan perfect getaway with my guide.

Book hotel
I plan to say there for 3 days and book 2 hostels because my first choice is full for first day. I recommend you this hostel Archi Rossi for a very affordable price. Always fully booked so prepare early. This hostel located near station, can be reached by foot. It’s old, but bathroom inside the bedroom help alot and they have home cooking italian food that taste so good.

How to get to Florence
I took Trenitalia train from Venice to Florence, book online. From my experience the best way to explore Italy is by train because bus stop sometimes hard to find.

How to get to your hotel
I get lost to find my first hostel. People here doesn’t care enough to help you. They keep telling me many different things, the information guy, bus driver and shop keeper. So i suggest use taxi first you arrive. Everything is near in Florence so it’s probably just need 5 min to get to your hotel that cost 10 Euro. It’s will be more expensive if you book hotel far away from station.
Difficulties
- The street is uneven cobble street and it’s the worst i’ve ever seen during my euro trip. So it’s very hard walking and dragging my luggage. Prepare for that. The best thing is book hotel near station.
- People in Florence is not as nice as other italian cities. They wouldn’t care to help you find adress. The better way is ask from your hotel or policeman. I don’t know why maybe they don’t know the place (which is impossible because it’s a small city) or they just doesn’t care.
- Some people doesn’t like if you take picture of them, happen once when i take a shoot of a painter and second from the guy at an attraction that give me bad face when i take about 6 picture of his property.
Explore Florence
Florence can be reach by foot in one day. And the next day you can do some daytrip to Cingue Terre, Tuscany, doing cooking school etc.
My hostel guy give a very specific route on how to explore Florence in one day and i’m so thanksful to that. By walking i can manage to go to Duomo, visit 2 museum , buy the famous gelato and chill near Arno river.
What to see
Walking to explore building, it’s the best place to enjoy renaissance era. Go to Duomo, it’s probably the most photographed building in Florence. Go inside the church. On the way there i see many pretty building.
Visit museum
There are many museum in Florence but the most important is Galleria degli  Uffizi to learn renaissance through the paintings and sculptures. Many students come from all over the world to study here. One of my roomate came from Kenya with her school to visit this museum. The qeueu is quite long, take about almost an hour and the museum is very big. It’s like a long walk through room and another room, a bit exhausting. Don’t forget to snap beautiful Florence bridge from there. I also send a postcard to my kids from here, it’s not expensive and came in 3 weeks.
The second museum i visit is Ferragamo museum. It’ small but very interesting. Dont miss film installation on the back.
Eat
Having italian food here is heaven. The price is not crazy like in Venice and so easy to access. I try a restaurant near my hostel. Happy to find zuchinni flower and ravioli. Though it’s not the best but it’s fun. Portion is always big.

Trying gelato is a must and my hostel recommend Gelateria Trinita that located right at the corner of the Ponte Vecchio bridge. Long queueu but unfortunately it’s not my fave.

Shopping
I only buy some make up at Kiko Milano near Duomo. I spot many store sell leather bags. And there is Mercato market if you love to explore.
Overall what best in Florence is that everything is very accessible, walking is fun here. Many beautiful building and can be cover in one day. Price is not expensive and you can do many daytour from here. Just take note of the difficulties to make prevention and you will be allright.
